Young Colors Batik Baby Clothes, Batik Kids Clothes, Batik Childrens Clothing, Hand Made Batik Clothes for Kids. Young Colors designs and hand-make the Batik Fabric in their colorful batik outfits. Batik ... the most quintessential Indonesian textile: Young Colors use the ancient art process of batik to create fun motifs for these colorful fabrics. They begin by drawing and designing motifs for new fabrics each season. To create the color story concept we must keep in mind the basic principles of mixing colors. A metal stamp or "cap" (pronounced "chop") of the new motif is carefully made by an artist. The cap is where the crispness of detail begins for Young Colors. The fabric making process starts with white cotton. The number of colors determines how many dye baths the fabric goes through. In a simple design the first dye bath is the color of the motif or pattern. We then hand stamp the motif on to the newly dyed fabric with a cap dipped in hot wax. Wherever the wax sets the next dye or color will not. Depending on the desired effect or complexity of the colors, various processes are used to create multiple colors and shade effects. After the fabric is set and dried, it is placed in boiling hot water to remove the wax. The long sheets of fabric are then line dried by the hot, tropical sun helping to further set the colors. The pre-washed, pre-shrunk fabric is now ready to be cut and sewn. |

About Young Colors |
||
Ancient Arts Made Modern Young Color's Children's Clothing and Accessories is available in over 1500 stores throughout 46 states. This fun, innovative brand has gained tremendous popularity since it's beginning 8 years ago. The company was started by husband-wife team Robert & Donna Prescott with the vision of bringing cute products with cultural flair to the children's industry. Fun, playful colors and hand-designed motifs play an important role in Young Colors designs. They also want to help kids expand their understanding of the world around them, of how and where things come from. For example the line's batik clothing has hangtags with kid friendly graphics showing how the ancient art process of hand-made fabrics is developed into modern designs and styles for today. See what Young Colors has created for kids who want to experience more of what the world has to offer! |

Young Colors began in 1998 after Robert & Donna Prescott finished working with Esprit overseas for a couple of years. For Donna it was to be her flexible, go anywhere, “at-home” job while Robert worked full-time for a company in an overseas position. They really started together right from the beginning - Robert & Donna explored Southeast Asia for 2 months all the while learning about incredible arts and crafts in the many countries they explored. On that trip Donna found what she thought to be an awesome fabric for kids called batik. The ancient art process utilizes nature to create incredible fabrics - which when made in bright fun colors is wonderful and practical for kids. After further research and a blessing disguised as a turn of events, Robert & Donna moved back to the states and decided to build the business together. Donna jokes about her vision for Young Colors being quite small compared to Robert's - especially with his extended entrepreneurial background and master's degree in international management from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management. |
