Sunburns can be very dangerous to a small child, so do everything you can to prevent this. If your baby is younger than one year old and is sunburned, contact your pediatrician immediately.
If your baby is younger than six months, keep him out of direct sunlight. Use the shade of a tree, umbrella, stroller canopy or other object to protect him.
Dress babies in lightweight clothing that covers the arms and legs, and use brimmed hats. If you cannot keep your child covered and in the shade, sunscreen can be applied. However, before covering your baby with sunscreen, be sure to apply a small amount to a limited area and watch for any reaction.
