See Kai Run is a family owned and operated business out of Seattle, Washington. The idea was born during the owner's quest to find the perfect “first” shoes for her son, Kai. She needed shoes that could stand up to soggy Pacific Northwest winters yet soft and flexible enough to be healthy for Kai's developing feet. She also wanted sophisticated, fun styles; better than the predictable styles she saw at the mall. With See Kai Run, she and her husband have created a line of shoes that satisfies all of these needs.

In November 2004, See Kai Run shoes began arriving in specialty children's boutiques, mostly in the Seattle area. Parents have echoed what I knew all along – there was an unmet need for hip and stylish baby shoes that had flexible soles for outdoors.

Sizing

How to Size Your Child's Feet for See Kai Run:

• Have your child stand on a piece of paper. Mark the longest points of the foot, from the longest toe to the back of the heel. Measure this distance in centimeters to get the length.
• Mark the widest points of the foot on the inside and outside of the foot, usually where the big and small toe joints begin. Measure this distance in centimeters to get the width.
• Allow 0.5 - 1 cm extra when selecting shoe size, more if the child will wear thick socks with the shoes.
• Measure often - children's feet grow quickly. Measure at least every 2 months during the first year, and every 3 months from 1 – 3 years. You never can tell when your child will have a growth spurt!

While pediatricians now agree that barefoot is best for proper foot and muscular development, it is not always practical. Flexible soles are recommended because they are protective for indoor and outdoor wear, yet not restrictive. The soles of Smaller booties are made from soft suede, with non-slip rubber pads for traction. See Kai Run shoes incorporate a very flexible, yet durable rubber for the soles of our first walkers. Both allow plenty of freedom for developing little feet.

What sizes are available?

• Smaller soft-soled booties come in sizes 0-6 months, 6-9 months, 9-12 months, 12-18 months, and now 18-24 months beginning in August 2009. See Kai Run shoes are available in whole sizes 3 through 9 and are appropriate for pre and new walkers, as well as older toddlers up to 3 years old. Eleven shoes are available in sizes 9 through 3 and fit kids approximately ages 3 through 8 years old. • How often should you measure your child's foot for the best fit?
• Children's feet grow quickly! Measure at least every two months during the first year, and every three months from 1- 3 years. You can never tell when your child will have a growth spurt.

Caring for the shoes:

See Kai Run shoes require a minimum of care. Made of high quality leather, they are naturally water resistant. For day to day cleaning, simply use a mild detergent and damp rag. Though not necessary, you may also use a water repellant spray to increase their water resistance. The owner's son, Kai, has put these shoes through the test – only like a two-year old boy can in rainy Seattle. They can say with confidence – their shoes hold up beautifully.

• Smaller soft-soled booties are ideal for indoor and light outdoor use. However, please note that the booties are not waterproof and should only be used in dry outdoor conditions. See Kai Run's sturdy yet flexible rubber soles allow kids to venture outdoors or stay inside. Eleven shoes are made with outdoor exploration in mind. Durable soles have superior traction for active kids.
• While shoes may hold up in the washing machine, we do not recommend this method for cleaning our shoes.
• The exterior of the leather shoes can be sprayed with a non-toxic water repellent for extra protection. To clean our shoes, use a little mild detergent and a damp cloth and allow to air dry.
