Organic Cotton Baby Clothes

Organic Baby Clothes: Positively Organic Baby Clothes, Greensprouts Organic Baby Clothes, Zutano Organic Baby Clothing, Zee Spot Organic Baby Clothes.

Organic Baby Clothes in cotton is Hypo-allergenic for your baby. Organic clothing uses cotton that is not farmed in the conventional ways. Pesticides are not used; other safer methods are used to produce the crops. Such as crop rotation, physical removal of weeds instead of use of herbicides, hand hoeing, using beneficial insects to counteract the bad and many more. Therefore workers have better working conditions, water quality is not compromised by run-off, and strong healthy soil is built. The end product is a cotton fabric that is toxin free.

Organic cotton also has other perks besides being toxin free. It is safer, sturdier, and cheaper and it feels great! Organic clothing may be more expensive when first buy it, but when compared to the cheaper cotton product it gives you your money's worth. Conventionally produced cotton material lasts 10-20 washes before it starts to break down. An organic cotton material lasts for 100 washes or more before it begins to wear down. This is because the cotton fibers in conventionally produced cotton take so much abuse in production because it goes through scouring, bleaching, dying, softeners, formaldehyde spray, and flame and soil retardants before it is even shipped to be cut for patterns.

Contrary to common perceptions, ordinary cotton is not necessarily as "pure and natural" as we're led to believe. In fact, conventional cotton farming represents less than 3% of the world's farmland but accounts for over 25% of insecticide and pesticide use, making it one of the most heavily sprayed crops on the planet.

According to the Organic Trade Association, by purchasing products made from organic fiber, you are supporting a system of agriculture that works to build healthy soils and a healthy environment.

Organic cotton is grown without toxic chemicals so it...

  • Eliminates contamination in the soil, air and water supply
Supports a system of sustainable agriculture

  • Reduces incidence of chemical sensitivity, cancer, allergies, asthma, rashes and other health issues for both farmers and consumers

  • Organic cotton is softer, more durable, more luxurious and healthier not only for humans but also for our fragile environment.

About My O Baby

My O Baby is delivering healthy clothing alternatives for today's babies. The chemical and pesticide free cotton which comprises our entire line is certified by The Control Union which guarantees that, addition to being free of chemicals and pesticides, the materials across our clothing lines are organically grown. To ensure that My O Baby is making the safest garments possible, The Control Union has also certified that the snaps are nickel-free, dyes carry a minimum of metal content and that the garments will not cause the rashes and skin irritations which typically result from conventional cotton. The importance of chemical and pesticide free baby clothes has been reinforced by recent statistics on the content of perilous elements in conventional cotton.     According to Lotus Organics, “Millions of children in the US receive up to 35% of their estimated lifetime dose of some carcinogenic pesticides by age five through food, contaminated drinking water, household use, and pesticide drift”. The most shocking aspect of this statement is that the children are receiving this exposure when they are the most susceptible to those poisonous elements. This dilemma is described in detail on Johnson and Johnson's website where they state, “A baby's skin is thinner, more fragile and less oily than an adult's. A baby's skin also produces less melanin, the substance that helps protect against sunburn. It's less resistant to bacteria and harmful substances in the environment, especially if it's irritated. Babies also sweat less efficiently than the rest of us, so it's harder for them to maintain their inner body temperature.” A baby's skin is also more porous, meaning that impurities can pass into their systems in greater concentrations. When those impurities are carried in clothing that can be in contact with a baby's skin for hours at a time, the potential for exposure to toxins increases dramatically.   One of the potential carriers for these toxins is conventional cotton, one of the largest crops grown for use in clothing production in the world. The industry, by itself, accounts for $2.6 billion in pesticide spending each year. Because cotton is not a food crop, it is not regulated in terms in terms of pesticides, herbicides, or chemicals that come in contact with it. According to the EPA, 7 out of the 15 pesticides that are regularly used on cotton carry marks classifying them as either potential or known carcinogens. The unregulated nature of cotton production clarifies why despite using only 2.4% of the world's farmland, 25% of the world's pesticides and 10% of its insecticides are used on it yearly. That calculates out to one pound of pesticide and one pound of chemical fertilizer for each pair of jeans or t-shirt produced. The conversion of this unregulated cotton into clothing requires additional chemicals that are added at various stages during the process. These chemicals include petroleum scours, softeners, brighteners, heavy metals, flame and soil retardants, ammonia and formaldehyde. Considering those statistics, it's not surprising that organic clothing for babies is rapidly gaining in popularity despite being more expensive than regular cotton apparel. In addition to being a much healthier choice, consumers are finding that clothes made of organic cotton last five to ten times longer than chemically treated cotton. The longevity of organic cotton clothes is attributed to the abuse that conventional cotton receives during processing where the breakdown of cotton fiber starts even before being sewn.     It might be more expensive and more hard to find at times but organic clothing brings so many healthy benefits it's worth the money, time, and effort to place your baby into outfits that have not been touched chemicals and pesticides. Indeed, by lasting longer than conventional cotton clothes, they're sure to make fantastic hand-me-downs as well My O Baby is a member of the Organic Trade Association and our garments are 100% certified by the Control Union guaranteeing that all of our products are organically grown, with no use of pesticides or chemicals.

sustainability - In today's global economy, we believe that the best way to uphold our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility is by supporting and promoting small-scale manufacturers and organic farmers across the globe.

Materials - Po's clothes are made from handpicked and ring spun cotton, which is grown by an organic farming community that has been growing organic cotton in Northern India for centuries. They are embellished with nickel-free snaps and low impact chemical dyes, which means they don't contain heavy metals so they have a very low environmental impact and are safer for people with allergies and sensitivities.
Po also strive to use recycled and/or reusable materials in our packaging.

Manufacturing - Their clothes are made in a beautiful, clean, light-filled factory located in a picturesque coastal town in southern India. They're sewn by a team of highly skilled workers from the local community who work decent hours for very fair living wages. With an organic garden just starting to take root outside, the atmosphere is as far from a sweatshop as you can imagine.

Believing that kids should be in school and on the playground, not at work, our manufacture doesn't employ anyone under 18 and actively supports the local elementary school. The owners just purchased several acres of farmland which will be developed as an organic farm where the factory workers will be able to grow crops and take what they need for their families

About Positively Organic - Combining luxuriously-soft organic cotton and sweatshop-free manufacturing with bold graphics, bright colors and hip, yet simple designs, Positively Organic's delightful collection of children's apparel is not just fun to wear — it's kinder to the planet and to the people who make them.

history - Positively Organic was founded by New York city residents Nancy and Peter Possenti, on the simple belief that when it comes to dressing kids, parents shouldn't have to choose between style and sustainability.

Ms. Possenti came up with the idea for Po's signature B•Babies collection while driving around the rural farmland near the couple's weekend cottage in the Catskill Mountains. In need of a baby gift and uninspired by what she found in stores, Nancy bought some blank onesies, designed a logo, and using iron-on photo transfers, created her first BarnBabies gift basket.  As requests started pouring in from friends and colleagues, she soon left her full-time job as PEOPLE Magazine's Creative Services Director to dedicate herself to launching the business.

During a life-altering trip to a woman's sewing cooperative in Nicaragua, the couple realized that in order to create a company they could truly believe in, they would have to commit to sustainable and socially responsible values — and Positively Organic was born.

With a clear vision, great passion and big dreams — but limited resources — the Possenti's started their company working late nights and weekends while also holding other jobs.  Tapping into their diverse backgrounds and talents, they designed a website, ordered some inventory and, with a heat press in their living room, started fulfilling orders.

As the company has grown, the heatpress and expanding inventory have made their way to a new studio space but the Possentis still personally print each of their B•Babies images – both to ensure the highest level of quality and to stay connected to the physical process.

Peter continues to hold a fulltime job as a graphic artist while also overseeing the company's technology, bookkeeping and printing needs.

About Nohi

All of Nohi's fabric is a combination of certified organic cotton, fiber from bamboo, and a touch of spandex to keep it washing well and lasting forever. They use low-impact, water based inks for printing and comply with all CPSIA guidelines and regulations to ensure that all of their products are lead-free and safe.

Why do they use organic cotton and bamboo?
Bamboo is known to be the fastest naturally growing plant on earth, making it renewable and sustainable. It reproduces and grows without fertilizers or pesticides. These growth characteristics enable it to spread rapidly across large areas and this improves soil quality in degraded and eroded areas of land.

Organically grown cotton is cotton cultivated in soil that has been certified free from pesticides, herbicides and other cytotoxins for at least three years; by its very nature cannot be grown from genetically engineered seed. Crop rotation - usually marigold and maize - as adopted to enhance the soil's fertility and to control sucking pests. In India, natural pesticides such as neem seed, cow's unire, buttermilk and datura are used, with farmyard and green manure replacing synthetic fertilizers. Organic farming uses 50% less fossil fuels than conventional agriculture and organic farming methods improve soil fertility, safeguard farm workers' health, and preserve the quality of our environment for future generations.
