Mim-Pi Clothing

Designer is Leonora Nieuwenhuizen. Mim-Pi is helping women of Ludhiana, India, by supperting their handcraft home work project. Mothers to be and new mothers who are still breastfeeding their babies are able to work at home. Together. This way the women have an income and have enough time to spend with their children. Their colorful crochet flowers, butterflies and hearts are used for the Summer 2008 collection.

Mim-Pi is also joined Made-By. All labels that do so use biologic cotton and work together with sewing factories that have a special social code. This, amongst others, means that there is no child labour.

Desinger Eleonora Nieuwenhuizen believe that you are what you look at, or in fact the way in which you look… You catch a glimpse, you get an impression of the world around you, wherever you go. These images embed themselves deep in our souls and become a part of our energy and imagination…

They form an individual pattern book with images, just waiting for a moment when they can somehow link up with each other. Some time later one of these images will pop into her mind and suggest to her a colour combination, a pattern or an idea for a design.

She travels the world in search of inspiration: in India, the colours are a great source of inspiration: green-blue glossy paint, the women in their colourful silk saris, old tiles, flower offerings in the temples and even in the cars. But also the panoramic view of the rice paddies on the island of Bali, the temple ceremonies, the Balinese basket offerings, the fruit at the market, the bits and pieces lying on the streets, the colourful sarongs of the women. In China you can also find the necessary inspiration, like the designs on the packets of incense and fireworks. Or in Europe: the old English crockery decorated with roses or old French soap packets.

Each and every person has his/her own individual colour sense although most people are not aware of this. You can discover what your personal colour is, for instance, by deciding which flowers you think are beautiful, which paintings you like, in shot: what you like looking at. Then you notice that things repeat themselves and that usually a particular colour keeps recurring. That colour is your colour and it can bring you luck and peace.


What she has noticed is that people are becoming increasingly more receptive to colour. She thinks that since there has been so much greyness in the world in recent years, people want to lead more creative and unrestricted lives; they want to enjoy so much more.
