Infant Footwear Recommendations
Flexible Sole: The sole of the shoe should be thick enough for protection but soft enough to allow the foot to move naturally. Bend the shoes to test for pliability - it should yeald with little resistence. Shoes that bend fairly easy when the toe is bent up will interfere least with the foot's natural motion. Your best bet is to look for leather or rubber soles that bend easily.
Soft Breathable Upper: Infants should go barefoot or wear lightweight, flexible footwear made of natural, breathable materials. Leather is ideal. Avoid plastic or imitation leather as it can cause excessive sweating and/or blisters. The soles should be so flexible that you can feel baby's toes through them (hard soles are absolutely out). To stay healthy, feet need to breathe and get plenty of exercise. They breathe best, and have the most freedom of movement, in shoes of leather, cloth, or canvas.
Deep, Wide Toe Box and Flat Soles: Toes have plenty of room to wiggle. (A pointed or narrow toe box should be avoided as it can squeeze the toes together and interfere with natural foot development). Look for a shoe with a broad instep and toe and a flat-as-a pancake heel.
Avoid Stiff Rubber Soles: Avoid stiff shoes for young feet. If you have difficulty bending the shoe in your hand, leave it in the store. Your baby will have even more difficulty bending the stiff shoe with his feet. Rubber soles tend to be more rounded, whereas the flatter leather soles tend to provide more stability.
Loose, Comfortable fit: Footwear should not restrict foot movement and/or development. Straps/closures should not be constricting.
About Pediped

pediped recently celebrated their one year anniversary after their Spring 2005 launch and had time to reflect upon the events of the past year. They want to thank all of you who gave their new products a try and are now loyal customers. Without you, they would not be where they are today.

Their Fall 2006 collection introduces styles and colors requested by their customers. They listen to all of your suggestions and try to do what they feel best fits with their design and desire for functionality and comfort. They thank you all for all of the advice and suggestions. They appreciate it!

pediped infant footwear was created by Brian and Angela Edgeworth after their search for the perfect soft-soled shoe for their daughter, Caroline. Having heard the benefits of soft-soled shoes, they wanted a comfortable shoe that was easy to put on, yet stylish. More importantly, it had to be made of the softest leather, yet provide enough protection for their tender toes to go outdoors. pediped footwear combines everything they were looking for. Their 16 month old Lauren is now their latest spokesperson and guinea pig for their shoes.

They hope that infants enjoy wearing pediped footwear as much as they've enjoyed creating them.
