| Why use a SleepSack™ Swaddle? | ||||
| Swaddling of infants has been common practice around the world for thousands of years. It has been shown that wrapping an infant snugly comforts them and immobilizing the arms prevents the "moro", or startle reflex, allowing them to sleep more soundly. The 2-in-1 SleepSack™ Swaddle helps infants to be swaddled from birth, but also allows you to remove the swaddle feature when no longer needed and use the SleepSack™ wearable blanket alone. | ||||
Recent warnings from the American Academy of Pediatrics, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, First Candle/SIDS Alliance and the National Institute for Health and Human Development caution against the use of loose bedding, as it can be a hazard if infants cover their nose or mouth and create a situation where they can re-breathe their own carbon dioxide. They now suggest the use of a wearable blanket. Re-breathing is believed to be one of the risk factors leading to SIDS. It occurs when a baby sleeps in certain positions or rolls onto his or her stomach and creates pockets of exhaled carbon dioxide around the nose and mouth. Loose bedding can bunch up around the baby's face creating these same types of pockets. Studies have found that this re-breathing phenomenon has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of infants annually. Slip the wearable blanket over your baby's regular sleepwear as a replacemet to loose blankets. You will normally want to put a "onesie" or long sleeve sleeper on underneath the wearable blanket depending on your nursery temperature. Don't put anything on your baby's head to prevent overheating. The SleepSack™ wearable blanket will keep them just right!

The Story of Halo In 1991, Bill Schmid and his wife suffered an unspeakable tragedy when they lost their infant daughter to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), which is the sudden, unexplained death of a seemingly healthy infant up to the age of one year. As an engineer, Bill devoted himself to finding new and creative ways to address these risks, which are primarily centered around loose bedding. In 1994, with these risks in mind, Bill formed Halo Innovations and in 1999 the SleepSack™ wearable blanket was created, which is intended to eliminate the likelihood that a baby can get entangled with clothing and loose bedding during sleep. Since it launch, the SleepSack™ brand has become the nation's best selling wearable blanket for babies, and is the first product to be recommended by the First Candle/SIDS Alliance. A percentage of each SleepSack™ Halo sells helps support the SIDS Alliance.
